The sentiment online is overwhelmingly against Grootman, with people highlighting his history of toxic behaviour and abusive tendencies.
After the ostentatious “it couple” of Grootman and Gcinile announced their split in public, Mzansi responded shocked and demanded that the Instagram influencer return her blingy engagement ring as well as pack up and go.
Themba Selahle, also known as Grootman on social media, allegedly demanded Gcinile Twala to return every item he ever gave her throughout their relationship, including a wedding ring set with diamonds.
Young South Africans have been captivated by their connection on social media due to their luxurious lives that they openly lead. The two were frequently spotted shopping, purchasing pricey cars, taking part in opulent local holidays, and sporting designer labels.
Grootman is widely known on social media as a forex trader and Instagram influencer, who also has a reputation for being an alleged scammer.
In July 2022, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) cautioned people from doing any financial services businesses with him and said he was not registered with the financial services regulator.
They said at the time: “The FSCA warns the public to be cautious when doing any financial services business with Themba Selahle also known on social media as @xo_grootman.
“Mr. Selahle allegedly offers to trade in forex on behalf of members of the public. He promises high and unreasonable returns to clients and is alleged to ignore them when they attempt to withdraw their funds or their profits,” the institution said.
The former couple have a one-year-old daughter.

Around January 2022, Gcinile got her former partner’s name tattooed on her chest, which instantly made people talk. People were shocked by the tattoo at the time and wondered why she would permanently tattoo the name of a man she was not married to.
People’s interest in their romance was continuously piqued by reports of their breakups and reunions, but this time seems to be permanent as Gcinile has gone so far as to cover up her tattoo. Two months ago, she covered up the tattoo.
Gcinile posted screenshots of herself being told by Grootman to pack up everything he had bought her, saying he would have the items collected, just as people were expressing their pride in her for ending the turbulent relationship and covering up the name she had tattooed on her chest.
In response to the screenshots, users on X said that Grootman could not bear to watch Gcinile happy without him.
