With the national senior certificate final exams ongoing, learners will be camping at schools preparing for the exams. The camps will be from 19 October 2024 until they finish exams.
Cllr CT Makhado of Ward 13 approached local businesses to sponsor the camps with food and toiletries.
During his quest, he also approached the Ethiopian community leaders, who were more than willing to lend a helping hand.
KI Twala and Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary Schools both received donations of food and toiletries worth ten thousand rand (R10,000.00) each.

It is unfortunate that we knocked on most local businesses and they were not willing to help; we want a 100 percent pass from these learners. We understand all these learners come from different backgrounds, and some do not afford to pay for these camps; therefore, these donations are meant to help in that regard, said Cllr Makhado.
He further mentioned that he knows the Ethiopian community is always on the wrong side of the community, but they also need to be appreciated for the good they do.
The chairperson of the Ethiopian community said they took this initiative as part of giving back to the community and thanking the community for the constant support they give to their shops.
Mr Mosomane, an educator at KI Twala, promised they would produce good results.
