Zonke had a very rough childhood, starting when her father passed on when she was 11 years old. Her mother was left alone to take care of six children alone. This put a dent in Zonke’s education and career path. Being a bright student, she started pursuing a Civil Engineering qualification at Berea Tech. However, financial constraints at home made her drop out and not finish the program.

She started studying drama and theatre even though her first love was dancing. Growing up, while watching Jika majika and Sarafina, she also taught herself how to dance. She attended a lot of Duma Ndlovu acting workshops fr a year before landing the role of Imani, which she has been holding for several years now.
