Popular actress Brenda Mhlongo who currently plays the role of KaMadonsela on Imbewu: The Seed has left the telenovela.
This is after the 42-year-old actress allegedly strangled one of the producers on the set. She is now in hot water after her meltdown on set and won’t be playing the character of the sangoma again.
A source revealed to Sunday World that the producer screamed for help when the popular actress choked her.
When she was asked why she did it Brenda allegedly said she “got too much into her character and the dlozi took over”.
Another source revealed that she expected it to happen because the conditions the actors are working under are toxic on the show. Sources on set also revealed that Brenda hasn’t been the same since she received a lower-paying contract and since the new management of the show took over.
“The new management brought with them very rude and unprofessional crew members who are treating actors and other people like crap. Many people have been on depression pills since the new management took over. The work environment is no longer enjoyable, and people are scared to talk because they do not want to be fired as the new management does not like to be challenged.”
Brenda is the latest star to leave the show after Nkanyiso Mchunu who played the character of Nkululeko left due to salary disputes and got replaced by Kay Sibiya. Brenda is also the second actress to play the character of KaMadonsela after Fundiswa Zwane resigned from the show. Other actors who recently left include; Phindile Gwala, Muzi Mthabela, and Buhle Samuels.
Imbewu is the brainchild of Muvhango creator Duma Ka Ndlovu and executive producers Anant Singh and Leleti Khumalo. E.tv’s spokesperson Bennum van Jaarsveld told Sunday World that Brenda went into a real trance and she had to be calmed down by the producer. “They had to stop shooting so that she could come back.”
