It never rains but pours for Ferguson Films after its big production, The Queen, was canceled. The show will be coming to an end after seven years of airing.

Close sources have it that it has been confirmed that The Queen contract won’t be renewed for another season. Entertainment blogger Phil Mphela took it to Twitter to break the cancellation news. Taking to Twitter, Mphela tweeted:

“After almost seven years on air, the Mzansi Magic telenovela will not be renewed for another season. Barring any changes to accommodate wrapping the storylines, the show will likely end this year.”

Of late, the drama series has lost its plot and is struggling with viewership. In the past two years, it has been toppled by Gomora as the most-watched drama series on Mzansi Magic.

However, the drama series has been implicated in nasty salary woes to worsen the situation, with lead actors dumping the show in the eleventh hour.

Several lead actors, Rami Chiume, Brenda Ngxoli, and Cindy Mahlangu, called it quits after they had a follow out with the showrunners. Connie Ferguson has been reported to be hostile and cunning in the mix of things, making it hard for several actors to bring out their best on set. Only this month, the sho had already lost at least three lead actors, and it’s battling to keep its cast.

We can all agree the cancellation news comes a death blow to the series that was failing to keep up with the demands of viewers. In the wake of SK Khoza, the drama series had to change its plot, and it ended up messing up the whole storyline. A mass exodus is expected to scale up in the wake of these woes.

The Queen is yet to weigh into the matter with its official statement. Rumour mill has it that the showrunners are already drafting exit scenes for actors and wrapping up their storylines after receiving the news of the cancellation.
