Skeem Saam has denied reports that its actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi, who portrays Koko Mantsha, has died.

This comes after the award-winning actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi, who plays Koko Mantsha in Skeem Saam, died on Friday, 9 June, according to the site @SSiTVSA.

“R.I.P Veteran actress Lydia Mokgokoloshi is well known for her appearances in Sepedi drama Bophelo ke Semphekgo and SABC1 soapie Skeem Saam as Koko,” tweeted @SSiTVSA.

@SkeemSaam3 said, “Hello. Kindly delete this. This is NOT correct.”

The actress left the soapie in 2020, where she portrays Katlego Peterson’s grandmother, Koko Mantsha.

According to Sowetan, the iconic actress has taken a hiatus from performing after playing Koko Mantsha since the show’s beginning in 2011.

The educational soapie confirmed to the magazine that Mokgokoloshi is still a recurrent character on the programme, albeit fans will see less of her on television.

“She will continue go in and out of the tale,” said the soap’s spokesman, Sumanya Mogola. She’ll just be shooting less than she used to. Our filming schedule may be rather frenetic at times, and we don’t want to exhaust her. She is at a vulnerable age and need as much rest, care, and comfort as possible.”

Lydia Mokgokolosi, the Skeem Saam actress, has been the victim of a death hoax for the second time. A phoney and unconfirmed SABC 1 Facebook page wished her death in 2021 as well.

The phoney story quickly spread on Twitter, with followers offering condolences and sincere remarks, believing Mantsha had died.

On its Twitter account, the soapie also dismissed the death hoax rumours in 2021, saying, “Beware of bogus news. Grandma is still living.”

In July 2021, actress Makgofe Moagi, who plays her daughter Charity Ramabu on the programme, claimed on Twitter: “She’s very much alive! Please quit propagating rumours… don’t write about unconfirmed deaths of individuals for clout!
