One hundred-year-old Tshinakaho Mananga had a lifelong ambition of acting, and her dreams were just realised when she was cast in the SABC2 soap, “Muvhango”. The programme is presently in its 24th season and its 26th year on the air. Despite its length, the programme continues to innovate with novel themes and compelling characters.
Mananga is from the Limpopo settlement of Thenzhani, where she lives with her daughter-in-law and grandkids. She first applied to be an extra on the programme for a Venda location shot, but the production crew recognised something unique in her and cast her.
According to a press release from the programme, Mananga checked all of the production team’s boxes and was the ideal choice for the character of Vho-Nyadzanga. The latest season of “Muvhango” is around the royal Mukwevho family and the Motsamai family, with multi-layered tales involving love, passion, drama, secrets, and revenge.
Vho-Nyadzanga is introduced to viewers when she becomes Lindelani’s “guide” and helps her become the legendary Vho-Nyadzanga. Despite their rocky start, the two quickly find common ground and collaborate. Mananga’s character, with her enthusiasm and dedication, fascinates everyone and shines in her duty.
